One PDF, in the order you need

Separate PDFs can turn a simple task into a collection of attachments. A cover letter, a report, and supporting notes are often easier to read as one document. Use this tool to merge PDF files in a deliberate order, then save a new copy. Your original files are not changed. The finished document contains the pages from each selected file, beginning with the first file in the list.

      How to combine PDF files

      1. Add your PDFs. Choose “Select PDFs” or drag files into the box. You can select several files at once and add more later. Each file must have a .pdf extension and a PDF header. An image or Word document renamed to .pdf will not work.
      2. Check the list. The tool reads each file and shows its name, size, and page count. If a file cannot be read, a message identifies it. Review similarly named files carefully so you do not include an earlier draft by mistake.
      3. Arrange the order. Drag a file to its new position, or use its up and down buttons. Those buttons also work with a keyboard and on a phone. Remove anything you do not need. Pages within each file keep their existing order.
      4. Merge and download. Select “Merge PDFs,” wait for processing to finish, and choose “Download merged.pdf.” Your browser may ask where to save the file. Open the download and check its first page, last page, and page count before sending it.

      Tips for a dependable result

Decide on the reading order before you start. A short introduction usually belongs before its supporting material. For a dated record, sort documents from oldest to newest unless the recipient asks for another arrangement. File names are useful guides, but the tool does not infer an order from dates or numbers: the visible list controls the result.

You can combine up to 50 files with a total input size of 200 MB and at most 5,000 pages. These are limits, not a promise that every device can handle a selection that large. Scanned PDFs may need much more memory than their file sizes suggest. If processing stops, close other tabs and try fewer or smaller files. Keep the page open while the worker runs.

Merging does not compress your PDFs or make scans searchable. Different page sizes and orientations remain different. Interactive forms, bookmarks, attachments, accessibility tags, and digital signatures may not survive a page-based merge. Fill or flatten forms in your usual PDF application first, keep signed originals, and check the output if those features matter.

      When joining PDFs is useful

A combined PDF can make an application packet easier to navigate, put meeting notes beside their agenda, or collect invoices for a particular project. Students can place an assignment before its appendices. Freelancers can join a proposal and supporting examples. Always follow the recipient’s instructions: some organizations need separate files, a size limit, or a specific naming convention.

      Frequently asked questions

Can I join PDF online free without an account?

Yes. The merge tool is free and has no signup. Select your files, put them in order, and download the result. No account or email address is needed to use it.

      What happens to my files?

We never upload your files. PDF processing happens in your browser, using a worker so the page can respond while it works. Our code does not save selections in browser storage or set cookies. Clearing the selection or leaving the page releases the tool’s references to your files. The downloaded PDF remains wherever you save it.

Why is my encrypted PDF rejected?

This tool does not unlock or bypass PDF protection, including files that open without asking for a password but still use encryption. If you have permission, use a trusted PDF application to export an unencrypted copy, then select that copy here. Do not send passwords or private documents to support.

Can I use the tool on a phone?

Use a current browser and its file picker to select PDFs from your device. Reorder with the arrow buttons. Downloads may appear in a save dialog or your browser’s download list. Large scans can exceed a phone’s available memory, so start with a small batch.

      Privacy beyond PDF processing

Visiting a website still involves normal web requests to its hosting provider. Advertising is disabled by default in this version. If advertising is enabled later, Google and other vendors may receive web and ad information and use cookies subject to consent requirements. That is separate from this tool’s local PDF processing. Read the privacy policy for details, and use contact to report a problem without attaching your PDFs.
